IFD 2010 Reflection ( for teachers)

Good day to all teachers,

After an eventful last week which comprised of many exciting events, let us be examplary reflective practitioners and reflect on the IFD celebrations.

This reflection is purely from your point of view and not from your class pupils..

IFD 2010 Reflection (P3 - P6)

It is time again to come together as a family to reflect on our latest core event,
International Friendship Day..

I am sure without a doubt that both teachers and students had a exhilirating time throughout last week especially on Friday.

Teachers,

International Friendship Day 2010

Hello everyone...

It is the special time of the year again where we get on board the massive ship of "Friendship".

Yeah.. It is International Friendship Day..

And we have many exciting events and programmes specially lined up for you

OUR THEME FOR THIS YEAR :

" OUR INTERCONNECTED WORLD"

Our Objectives:

1. Learn & Appreciate other multi-cultural diversity in Singapore

2. Nurture the spirit of friendship & collaboration among different people

3. Understand the importance of good bilateral relations with neighbours

4. To understand the need for friends to communicate & help one another

And we are using the upcoming YOG as our anchor point..

Here is what you can expect throughout the week from 12th- 16th April 2010

1) Special Skit - Entitled " Our Friendly Neighbour"

2) YOG Booths - Interactive Booths for students and teachers

3) Special Assembly Programme - Come face to face with Singapore's Paralympian

4) Sports Day for P4s

5) "Cook-Off" cooking competition for parents - Chance to treat your taste-buds

6) Special Appearances by Merly and Lyo - Our YOG mascots..

Total Defence Day 2010

Hi All,
Total Defence Day celebrations are over. Amidst all the hypes, please take some time to view the following videoclip which comprises of some photos taken during the TDD activities.

10th NE Heritage Islanwide Trail 2009

Hi everyone,
6 pupils from our school represented TKPS in the above event which was organised by Rivervale Primary School. They are:

3) Ang Hui Shan - 3 Harmony
4) Nur Liwani - 4 Harmony
5) Nirmal Kishore - 5 Joy
6) Vanessa Poon - 6 Harmony

It was a tiring, yet fun filled day. Our pupils demonstrated the school value of Resilience to persevere throughout the trail. Well done!! SO PROUD OF YOU!!

Views on National Day Activities

Hi Teachers!
We had a jolly good time on the 7th of Aug as we did our part in celebrating our nation's 44th birthday. Attached is a music video which is one of the National Day songs. Attention to all Mother Tongue Teachers( Reflection on RHD)

The Mother Tongue Dept, NE Dept and the Art Dept put in a lot of effort in making Racial Harmony Day in TKPS a memorable and successful event. Well Done TKPS!

Hi P5 Teachers and Students,

I am sure you had a wonderful time during the NE Show on the 11th July at Marina Bay.
Despite the heavy downpour we "Stood Up" proudly for Singapore.
It is now time for some reflection.

RESILIENCE

We are continuing the values-based assembly programme this year. The first assembly programme will be based on the value - Resilience.

We have specially invited the Health Promotion Board to perform a skit entitled "I am a VIP". Undoubtedly, this skit will educate the students with knowledge and sound skills on building a positive self-esteem and confidence, emphasizing on our value - RESILIENCE.

As a follow-up to this assembly show, answer the questions posted on this blog.

P1/P2 Scenario(s) - Ashley

Ashley used to be a model student in class. She is hardworking,
respectful to teachers and always complete her work on time.
But, for the past few weeks, she has been behaving differently.
She tends to say "I am Stupid",

"I am uselesss", "I am going to fail" and is very negative

with everything she does.

Reflect your thoughts on Ashley by asking:

P3/P4 Scenario(s) - Kathy

Kathy is a very adorable and hardworking girl. She is very neat and hands in work on time. However, after she failed her test once, she has not been performing well in her studies. Whenever she sees a question that she cannot answer, she will just stare blindly on the paper and do nothing. Many of times, she will just cry when she cannot answer the questions and tends to say "I am dumb" or "I am silly".

Put yourself in the shoes of Kathy and answer the following:

1. What problem is she facing?

2. If you are her good friend, what can you do to help her to be more resilient?

3. If you are Kathy, how will you react differently? Why?

4. Why is it important to be resilient when we are faced with such problems?

P5/P6 Scenario(s) - Aloysius

Aloysius is a very quiet boy in class. He tends to be reserved and seldom talk to his classmates. He also has very little friends. Recently, you heard from some friends that Aloysius has some family problems at home. His father has been retrenched and his mother is sick. These have affected him in his studies. He tends to give up very easily and always feel very sad.

Study the case study of Aloysius with these prompts:

1) What problem is he facing?

2) If you are his friend, what can you do to help him to be more resilient?

3) If you are Aloysius, what will you do differently when you face such problems?

4) Why is it important to be resilient when we are faced with such problems?

The food rationing exercise helps us to understand the hardships we will go through in difficult times, like an emergency. We cannot afford the good food we have every day.
